It's Monday, and I have to be a grumpy teacher. Sigh.
Monday, 26 degrees out, and the sky is wrapped in a magenta and grey bunting. It's pretty, even though it sort of reminds me of the Owens-Corning thick fiberglass insulation. At any rate, it's a colorful start to the day.
The weekend was good, in all the ways it should be. I got a lot done, we had a good time in Tilton, and I got decent sleep at night. Can't complain. This morning, I am jealous, though. G is on vacation this week. I wish I were wrapped up in a fuzzy blanket with a second cup of coffee like he is. That said, it'll be fine. At least when your teaching assignment is high school, you aren't quite as bombarded by the pre-Halloween ecstasies. Usually.
And it's Red Ribbon Week, so we are asked to wear red today. Lucky for me, I unearthed my one red top when I flipped the closet this weekend, so I'm all set. And apparently I have about six pairs of Halloween-themed socks, so I'm going all out. Another bonus of doing the clothing excavation and purge on Saturday.
I'm afraid I may have to put on the Cranky Teacher guise in the Brit Lit class, though. They did not follow directions (most of them) for their essay last week, even after I gave the first drafts back and said "fix 'em before I grade them." I cannot for the life of me figure out why I'm getting final typed drafts with the characters' names uncapitalized. And they totally ignored the proper citation formatting. And so on. Two papers were good. One was okay. The others--not so much. And no, they are not getting a chance to rewrite, because the content of the papers was okay, but the execution was abysmal. And sloppy papers are not going to be rewarded. (End rant.) At least the juniors' editorials were decent. Amen for that.
Ah, the teacher life. I know in my heart that there are far more pressing things to be upset about in the world-- the list is huge-- but if they do not care about what they "look like" as represented by the work they turn in, then all is lost. So, I'll grump about it. I might even hear from a "concerned" parent. I do not care. Garbage work does not get a good grade. (Okay, really the end of the rant.)
That all said, I hope the day is good for you. Keep safe. Keep others safe. Hold on to those you love.
