A day "off"-- huswifery abounds. I don't mind. And War and Peace on Britbox.

Rainy, chilly Monday-- Indigenous Peoples Day (I won't go there, but it's not "Columbus Day" in my mind).

I know this post is a little later than usual, but I got up at the usual time, and then proceeded to get a turkey soup going (boiling the meat on the bone, then pulling it out to "pick" and adding veggies, then putting the meat back into the pot). I got the sourdough starter fed and going, too, so I can make bread later. And I have a metric ton of house work to accomplish, but first, I'm taking a minute to write a little to you.

So, how ya doin'?

How about those Patriots? Love them or not, it was a good game, especially since some first-string starters are still on the IL. Never count 'em out, eh? And the 49-ers won their game, too -- my second choice team since way back with Joe Montana. What's best is watching the football game with Meg-- she gets me. She's just as vocal. And I love spending time with her. Holly has little patience for football as yet; she will, I suspect, in time, once she knows what's she's looking at. Same with any televised sport. She's just happy to be with her people, at least until her patience runs out. She went home after the first quarter.

As Sundays go, it was a delightful day. Church, breakfast, made 6 pints of pear-apple sauce (G went out and picked more pears so I could fill the pan). No papers to grade (on purpose-- I wanted a long weekend "off"), and I postponed most of the house work until today. Maybe not my best move, but it felt right. So, today, a day off from school (though the rest of the family is at work), I will be engaging in full-contact huswifery. I'm not washing floors, though-- they wouldn't dry.

Thank goodness for the pellet stove. I caved and got it going around 7am. My various pain points (ankle, knee, wrist, shoulder) don't like the damp today. I'll manage what I have to do, but I'll pace myself. Can't do much all else, really-- let your body be the guide, eh? Mine wants to go back to bed. Holly is with me today until after dinner, so we'll probably do some reading, some projects, and try to keep things low key. She has another cold, and we could both use a little rest time.

O, and one other good thing: A new version of War and Peace is on Britbox. I watched the first installment last night. Now, I think I'm following the plot, but it's complicated. Which I already knew, and yes, full disclosure, I haven't read the book. I own it, and will likely hit it sometime when I'm not pulled in a zillion directions. I have a monstrous TBR pile. What I don't have is long stretches of time to read at this point. If I ever get to retire, watch me go. I'll be a reading machine. I buy books ahead; I figure, if I get to retire, I won't be able to afford to buy so many books. So, get 'em now. It's not hoarding, it's investing. Likewise, dvds. I buy the movies I like, and I'll watch 'em when I don't have money to do anything. Call it parsimony on installments. My someday-I-may-be-able-to-retire plan.

Have a good day, friends. Hugs all around.
