Untethered or planned? I like a plan. Bees. And more garden grumblings.

Thursday, and it's going to be humid and quite warm. T-storms in the forecast for the evening. I think I'll get groceries today (I'm all out of sync but we are also all out of milk). I'm quite sure Holly will want pool time, and I might join her. And tonight, I am going to Franconia to hear this summer's resident poet at the Frost Place read at the lovely little jewel-box of a library, the Abbie Greenleaf. Unless, of course, the t-storms are already raging. Sigh. I hope not.

At any rate, there's a plan in place for today, and likely it'll change here and there, but I like having a plan. I've tried the whole floating through the day thing, and it makes me uneasy. I like flexible plans, but no plan is too untethered.

Most folks like summer break because it's untethered, but I am more happy with a "get some chores done in the morning then loaf about as you wish in the afternoon" vibe. It's not always easy to stick to, but it works for me.

Yesterday was a far better day with Holly, too-- again, there was a plan of sorts. And she got a good hour in the pool in the afternoon, too, after G's bees swarmed. Sigh. Summer stuff, eh? He got them all back into a box, though. Easiest swarm capture ever-- they weren't feeling too  industrious, I guess-- and they clustered on a low branch of the Asian pear tree. He just snipped the branch, toted them back to the bee yard (about twenty feet), and shook them into the new box. Hopefully, they now have enough room to be content.

My garden is iffy; the peas shriveled-- I have about four plants. And they are puny. I will never, ever buy seeds from an unfamiliar source again-- well, I didn't, G bought this assortment of seeds that were supposed to be the kind you could save seeds for the future, etc. Yeah. No bueno. I will have no parsnips, few carrots (I replanted with some name-brand seeds), few beets (again, used some seeds I had), and no sugar snap peas. I just planted a new round of green beans in the "nothing happened" box-- maybe we'll get some extras. The squash are okay, the tomatoes are robust. The cukes are doing fine, too. And G rescued a zuke and we plopped it in a pot. I did see one squash plant that looks sad-- I hope we don't have squash beetles again. Those suckers (and I mean that literally) devastate my squash every time, it seems. I have some neem oil, so maybe today I'll see what's what with those.

And I still have not taken the time to do much of any weeding. It's been hot, and my ankle/knee situation is painful. I think I need to change shoes. Or something. It's depressing how painful this is on the daily.

At any rate, I will likely do errands today so that I can walk okay on Saturday. Meg got tickets to a ballgame and I'm invited. =) And Sunday is the first of the series of guest poets/open mic events for the Frost Place-- I need to be able to walk.

So have a good day, friends. Keep the faith, hug folks, and pray we get to the other side.
