Birthday musings

Another rainy start to the day, with showers predicted for the whole of it. This has been a very chilly/rainy start to "summer vacation," and I, for one, am more than ready for warm and sunny days. The pool has been up for almost two weeks, and the water is icy cold.

What do I want for my birthday? That was a question G asked me on Saturday, I think it was. Besides having my eyes feel better, and a host of world peace-related things? I'm now at an age (!) when stuff is not what I need, but yet, I like presents. I gave him the title of two books I want that won't be out until August, so he pre-ordered them for me. That's a win! Because by August, this teacher's meager summer money will be just about gone. And he brought home a pretty bouquet of flowers yesterday, which helps brighten up the inside of the house-- my roses are going bonkers outside, but it's too wet to go out and enjoy them.

What do I want for my birthday? I'd love to start with a warm, dry morning so I can have coffee on the deck. Seems like too much to ask, I guess. Meg, Holly, and I are going to the nail shop to get mani/pedi/whatever done later, so that'll be nice. And Starbucks gives you a free coffee on your birthday, so I'll swing in for that. Meg declared she was handling dinner, too-- we settled on charcuterie. That way, everyone is pleased.

What do I want for my birthday? Not to be sad, scared, or angry about the state of things in our country. The 250th feels like a series of body blows, not anything to celebrate.

What do I want for my birthday? Quiet. Inner and outer quiet. And I guess that's the best place to start.

Have a good day, friends. I'm grateful for you.
