...ah, birdsong, cool air, and summer green. This is nice.
I'm taking the morning a little slower today-- it's Saturday, the robins are warbling, the cardinals are speaking up (chit chit chit), and it's going to be a hot/humid day. But right now, the air is cool, the coffee is hot, and I'm not thinking about school at all. Well, one thing, but that is settled: I negotiated a more convenient start time for when the traveling theatre troupe is coming to our school to do a production of Much Ado About Nothing in September. I put that project to bed for now, and yes...it's summer break. I won't say vacation, because for me, it's a shift in responsibilities and must-do lists. But it's mostly MY lists, not one externally mandated, so that's the "break" part of things.
Today is a long day that stretches before me, and it's primarily populated with checking on my garden boxes and going to the grocery store. I'll likely putter about, but yeah-- flexible time. It's also Pollyanna Day in Littleton (a celebration of "Be Glad" as put out into the world by Eleanor Porter, Littleton native.) I don't know if Holly's parents will be taking her downtown for the fun and festivities, but I hope so. It's a lovely break in the sturm und drang that is our daily lives. They should enjoy the fun stuff while she's young enough to want to be in the mix of it all.
And I suppose it's worth noting that the defacement and occupation of The Kennedy Center is being righted. I just wish that the trashy midway look on the WH lawn was not a counterpoint. We'll take the positives though. Something of our collective cultural heritage must remain, right? I could wax loquacious about all that visual metaphor-generation, but I won't. Not today, anyhow. Today, I am enjoying the quiet, the cool air, the green of my yard, the fruit trees are setting fruit, the garden looks (from the window anyhow) managed, and I have little that calls me to hurry up. I like that.
Tomorrow, assuming all goes well, is the day the pool gets put up. It'll take a bit for the water to warm, but it'll be there, inviting in it's coolness. I bought new steps to get in, too-- I don't want a repeat of last year when I fell out of the pool. That hurt. Kinda puts a bummer vibe on the whole "enjoying the cool water in the sunshine" thing.
Have a lovely day, friends. Be glad, if you are able. Be safe. Hugs to everyone, especially to those who need 'em the most. The finches and wrens are calling...
