Taking the day slowly-- G's b'day and baking will commence!

UP, and it's not snowing. Granted, it was also four below zero again. Today is G's birthday, and we are going to have a relatively "chill" day (no pun intended). I overdid it yesterday, what with stomping through snow to get to the car to gun it through the 8-10 inches of new-fallen snow to get Holly to basketball (she had a great time), cleaning out enough when we got back (shoveling...ugh), and then getting groceries. All while wearing heavy boots. My knees and feet hate me. So, I'm going to watch church on the livestream-- not my favorite option, but today, I'm letting pain be my guide.

Later on, Holly will come over and we'll bake a cake. G playfully asked for a black forest type of cake, and that's what he's gonna get. I have flan pans, and that way, there's an indentation to put filling in. I am thinking about filling the cake with vanilla pudding, and then using the second layer to fill with a little more pudding and cherry pie filling. Or maybe we'll put the cherry pie filling inside? I'm still considering the options. And there will be chocolate frosting involved. If it looks presentable, I might take a photo.

G and Holly negotiated over the birthday dinner, too. I was going to make lasagna, but Holly, for some reason, is not a huge fan. So, they settled on home made meatballs with spaghetti. And garlic bread. For which I bought a fancy Italian boule (she who buys the ingredients gets to have some say).

Holly and Tim will join us for dinner, but Meg is working. We'll save her a piece of cake.

And glory be, I don't have anything else on my agenda for today. Usually, Sundays are like "Monday eve" and I have to be getting some school stuff done. Not this time. I did my school stuff ahead, and I have the week to not do school stuff. And yes, I just used "school stuff" four times in a short paragraph. So be it.

After all, this is vacation week, right?

Have a blessed Sunday. Share the love, eh?
