Ok, almost time to go back...but first, coffee
Friday. The last day of my "vacation." Which has, in no way, really been all that vacation-y, with the exception of being able to drink coffee in a civilized manner and not having to hit the shower at an ungodly hour. Things have gotten done, but nothing out of the ordinary, except getting the Passcard thing taken care of. See? I'm using really vague language: things. I am feeling pretty vague about this whole week of "vacation," too.
Okay, I did read and finish a whole 688-page book. I sent off a couple of poems for likely rejection. And, like I said, I've hung around in pjs every morning. And I'm going to start a new book today. I have to figure out some more contemporary fiction for AP Lit for next year-- a book or two that won't set off the neo-conservative fireworks. We'll see how that goes.
Today, I will do a few house chores, hang out with Holly (as I have been all week), and think about a grocery list. We were going to go out to dinner tomorrow night, but G's schedule got messed up again-- people have things (there's that word again) going on, and he covers for them. So, I have to dream up something or other for dinner tomorrow, too.
This next stretch of time between the end of this break and the next one is the long one. We won't see any flexible time until the last week of April. Usually, there are at least a couple three-day weekends in the span between breaks, but this one is not like that. When I was a kid, we used to have Good Friday off, at least. Not anymore. Think of it as the doldrums of academic life. Truly, we are moving forward, but the weather is bleah. For the kids who play sports, it's the weird time between basketball and baseball/softball season-- and since we are buried up to our eyeballs in snow, diamond sports seem far off.
Well, that's enough boring chatter. I hope you have a good day. Try to avoid some of the firehose of absolute dreck that is the daily news cycle. That stuff is depressing and scary and definitely not fit fodder for the mind. We're hitting March and bad things in the news. Not a good combination.
Hold your loved ones tight.
