It's Thursday already? how?!
How is it that it's already Thursday? At least I can say I've read a bit, slept a bit, and have accomplished a few minor things this week. I've got a cheddar cheese quiche in the oven as I type this (and it's not yet 6:30 am), and I've got my trusty cup of coffee and bathrobe.
Yesterday, I went to the post office to get my Passcard renewed. Well, get a new one, since mine expired. That took about an hour for a ten minute job, but it got done. It seems that they don't do passport stuff often in our local post office, even though they are a designated place to do so. And who knew that it took a legally certified person to do it? And one of the two was on lunch? It took two nice ladies quite a bit of wrangling to figure out how to do the photo. Then one of them had me fill out a whole new set of forms (which I didn't need to do...sigh). Then, they had to find the other person who is legally able to process the form. Et cetera. Lucky for me, I had gotten a parking spot in front of the building, but the meters only take 20 minutes. I did not get a ticket. I am grateful. And my paperwork and expired Passcard are winging their way to the Department of State.
Why did I have to get it? If the SAVE Act passes, I will need it to vote. There's also a new EO looming, where it states that banks will have to require proof of citizenship to open a new account. And who knows? Maybe I'd like to go to Montreal again sometime in the next ten years. The whole ordeal cost me 80.00; cheaper than the full Passport, but I'm not likely to go to Europe (though that would be super cool).
At any rate, that little chore got done relatively painlessly. House chores are always a thing, but I don't feel like doing much today. I just might not. I mean, I'll do dishes and stuff, and I already bagged up the small trashes around the house (tomorrow's Trash Day). But Holly will be here around 8:00, and she will want to do something, and I have a project in mind. I also would love to finish my book.
Imagine that. I have almost finished a book. A thick 'un, too. I have not sat and read for hours on end in years. Finally, I have glasses that allow it. And the book is a hard cover one, so the print is a bit larger. It's a huge Ken Follett historical fiction, and while it's not his best work, the story is good, and I am dang happy to say it's not taking me a month to get through a single book. That's what it's like, I guess: clear the desk of school stuff, and just sit down and read. Holly napped, I read. A really good afternoon.
G took Holly outside to play in the snow for about a half hour yesterday after lunch, which explains her napping. She put herself down for a sleep-- and so did he. And the dog. It was great.
I hope today is just as relatively peaceful. Give yourself a little space and grace. Hold your loved ones close.
