Summer vacation is winding down...sigh...things to do, things to do...

It was a good night for New England sports: the Patriots manhandled the Commanders in preseason play, 48-18. The first TD of the game was New England's, 52 seconds into the first quarter. Then, the Red Sox beat San Diego 10-2. I didn't watch that one, but it's a good score to start a West Coast series with.

And the birthday dinner/cake for Meg went well, and I got three poems accepted by a journal. Good evening, all around. The poems are all food-related, as the journal, Amaranth, is focused on food, predominantly. It's an international journal, so much of the website is in both English and German. They wanted a photo to go with my bio; I have a few saved on my computer. So, we'll see which one they pick (they requested two).

I had stress dreams all night, with a real doozy that woke me up around 4am. I haven't had stress dreams in weeks, so I don't know where these came from-- all I know is, I hope it's not one night of a series of bad sleep. That is never any fun.

That said, today should be a quiet day, with just a little bit of errands (hair cut, groceries) and tomato-picking involved. I had plans to get in the pool with Holly today, but they've decided to head out to Storyland. As the saying goes, they had a better offer, I guess. I was invited to go, but honestly, it's going to be hot, and all of the tourists will be there with all of the small kids... nope. Too chaotic for me. O well. I can get in solo, if the water's warm enough. It's not nearly as much fun, but if it gets hot like it's supposed to, it might be relaxing.

And there's computer work looming. I have not done my school prep yet (maybe that's percolating in my subconscious?), so the sooner I get that figured out, the sooner I can let it go, mentally. I don't think I'll put in due dates for the assignments yet. It's enough that they are in the weeks on the Google Classroom; I usually end up changing the dates anyhow. I'll try it for a bit, get a feel for the rhythm of the classes, and probably put them in at the start of each week. We'll see how that goes.

There are things I wanted to see/do this summer that got tabled yet again. There just doesn't ever seem to be a good time: people's schedules don't match, and there's "we can go anytime"--but anytime doesn't seem to happen. At least the things I bought tickets for have been things we actually got to! And I have movie tickets purchased for the end of August to see Jay Craven's Lost Nation. His historical/ NEK films are always good, and there's a discussion with him after the film, too-- so that's something to look forward to. It's also a matter of interest: I like certain things, but the rest of my family does not. So, since I hate doing stuff alone, I don't go to things like the concerts in the park or certain movies. Meh, I have my book to read.

G is on vacation after today, and during this week we are going to the aquarium in Boston (G's surprise to me, and Meg and Holly are going, too) and we are going overnight to the beach (we haven't been in 9 years, and Meg and Holly are going as well). Those will be fun, I hope. I'll get some good seafood, anyhow!

Did you know it's also the 50th anniversary of Monty Python's The Holy Grail? I toyed with the idea of getting tickets to see it on the big screen, but probably we won't-- it was the night before Lost Nation, and two nights out would just be too weird...LOL.

We are not planning to go to any fairs this summer. They've become less and less fun over the years; if you aren't a randy teenager wanting to cruise the midway after dark, all that's left is commercial booths, the beer tent, and smashing of cars, it seems. Maybe I'm a little reductive, but I don't find it fun. The animals are interesting, and that may be one reason to go (who knows? maybe we'll do a spur of the moment thing), but we'll see. I've never been to the Fryeburg Fair; that would be a new experience.

But for now, I hear crickets, the morning is cool, and I have things to get done before I have to head out for errands and a hair cut. I hope you have a good day,

C
