Poetry and herbs--antidotes of a sort

Today is the final day of the Poetry Seminar. I am mentally tired, but it's been a good week, for the most part. I did skip the reading last night-- I spent the evening on the deck with Meg, since I can't hang out with her today on her birthday. My eyes are happier, too, that I was not on the computer. That's the only downside to Zoom events--eye strain. We've been given multiple short breaks, but my eyes get tired easily.

That said, I have things planned for tomorrow that should be fun, so after today, I can go full tilt end-of-vacation mode. Nail appointment for Meg and me, then I'll make a dinner/ cake for us to all celebrate. On Saturday, I will get my hair cut. And then, miracle of miracles, G is on vacation for a full week. He so rarely takes time off, this is going to be great fun. We have a couple of things planned, but we've also got some down time, too.

Unfortunately, the summer projects never materialized, again. Maybe we'll get a couple of things done -- there's painting and scraping that is becoming critical-- but alas, the kitchen painting project just fell off the calendar again. It's a huge undertaking, really, so ?? someday...

There's always something, right? I will try not to dwell on it.

What is good is that the garden is producing stuff. I have to do some herbed butter soon-- that will be a fairly quick enterprise, and there isn't a rush, but the herbs are going bananas. And the tomatoes are starting to scare me a little--there are so many! We'll be eating a lot of tomatoes. Lots. I have hopes for the squashes, but we'll see. I watered the gardens for a good stretch of time last night. Squashes need water. The rain that was originally predicted for yesterday never materialized.

At any rate, I have time for a couple of cups of coffee this morning, and I am going to make good use of that time. I am ready to get on with the last day of lecture/workshop, and then the reading tonight. It's an evening of the participants' work, and I mulled over which ones to read... hope I chose well. I won't be using my full five minutes, and that is entirely fine.

I also spent some time yesterday working on what I'll read on Sunday. Meg Kearney is the headliner for Sunday in the Barn with Bob, and I'm reading as well from my own little book, and I think I'll read a couple from the new book coming out in May. And maybe a poem or two that are a bit newer.

So much poetry! So many good works to read and hear! It's an attempt to balance all the nasty stuff out there, and for a short span, it helps. And yes, thyme heals all wounds...really, you can look that up.

Have a super day,

C
