Garden abundance ... but where to put it?
My dreams are still peppered with schoolish stuff; I'm blaming the week at APSI. In the waking hours, I'm not obsessed with school-- I'm soaking in all the hot weather, the pool time, the flexible mornings. When I think about work, it feels like drowning a little-- I'm not ready, I'm not ready... I need mental rest. Maybe it'll stop percolating through my subconscious tonight? I sure hope so.
I have to go to work today to make some printed copies of the packet of poems I'll need for my online poetry conference in August. I'll stop by to see my boss and talk a little about what I learned at APSI, too. Maybe that will put it into a box in a dusty corner of my brain for a couple of weeks. And I have PT again; I'm still sore from Tuesday and (moreso) from overdoing things (per usual) in the pool with Holly and picking raspberries.
Yes, raspberries! Our little thicket I planted a few years ago has become prolific! And the little blueberry bushes are producing well, too. If we didn't get cherries (stupid late spring cold snap), at least we'll have some other fruits. The strawberries were lovely this year, too. Must be because all of the berries are planted near the beehive. =)
And omg the jungle of tomato plants! We should have a very good tomato harvest. In fact, they have overgrown their cages, their stakes, the boxes... it's wild country back there. And the squash are doing fine, too. Today, we should pull up the pea vines-- that was a fun experiment this year, and I might do it again next year. I might need another garden box, though. We shall see. Geoff rescued a cucumber plant, so I think we'll rehome it where the peas were. It's been too hot for greens, so I will just give up on those. There's some, but not a lot. And it's too hot for most of them anyhow.
The beans are blooming, the carrots are doing well, and so on. It's high summer, and I'm glad that the things we planted are doing well. There's a sort of chaotic orderliness to it all.
Come fall, the apples and pears will need my attention-- and we still have so much in the freezer, I really ought to organize things a bit, and move that sort of thing to the fridge freezer, and make some sense out of the jumble of meat and so on in the big freezer. I try to keep a running inventory, but I fail at it repeatedly.
Sounds like a perfect rainy day project... if it rains...
Have a good one,
C
