Summer is getting busy! Things to do-- join me?
Well, yesterday was not a pool day. I, who love the summer heat, could not stand being outside for long stretches. One hundred in the sun, humid... yeah, headache and queasy feeling as a result. I'm glad for the A/C. Today, however, is supposed to be mid-80s, so maybe we'll get our daily dunking in.
And we have friends coming for lunch! I treasure old friendships so much. One reason I even stay on Facebook is so I can keep up with who and what is going on with friends. But first, I have my second PT session-- yay! I'm really hoping that insurance covers all of this, but I need to be able to walk without tipping over, so I'm committed to getting some mobility back. The "homework" is not hard, but my knee sure feels it.
And the radio interview is rescheduled! Thursday at noon, I'll be chatting with Nate on NCCR, and we'll see where that conversation goes. It ought to be pretty freewheeling, at any rate. I'm looking forward to it.
Before that, there's story hour at the Coop at 10; Holly and I will be going. And then Thursday evening, there's the reading for this year's Frost Place Dartmouth Poet in Residence in Franconia at the Abbie Greenleaf library at 7pm. If you're local, come hear the poet read. I don't know anything at all about him, so I'm eager to hear his work.
Who says summer is lazy and boring? I also "did a thing" this week: there will now be an open-mic style series of community reading/music-playing at The Frost Place every Sunday at 3pm, starting July 13th- Aug. 24th. I call it "Sundays in the Barn with Bob"-- if you are around, come hang out, read a poem or play some music, or just applaud the brave souls who are sharing their work with the world up there on the ridge.
None of these things will directly impact or even fix the nightmare chaos that encroaches upon our lives; I understand that to celebrate the little things seems, at least on the surface, to be almost ignoring the darkness. But I don't think so, not really. If we don't carry on with life, if we don't celebrate the little things, if we don't reach out to be intently and intensely with one another, then the darkness wins.
I'm not letting it win. Like Sarah says to the Goblin King in The Labyrinth:
Through dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City to take back the child that you have stolen, for my will is as strong as yours, and my kingdom is as great. You have no power over me.
Have a super day,
C
