I keep forgetting I need rest...
I have to keep reminding myself I'm not 30 anymore. I started with the major weeding project on Friday (which escalated, as they do), then all day yesterday I pushed hard-- errands and groceries, changed the winter curtains to summer ones, washed half of the windows, cleaned the den and changed out throw rugs, washed all the curtains, then went with Holly to the garden center and bought plants. Then, made dinner. And promptly fell asleep on the couch before 9pm. There are so many things I want to get done, but frankly, I need a day of rest. I will pace myself better, going forward.
So, this week, I'll do another couple of windows (these are inside). I have a whole list of to-do stuff-- recall on my car (headlight thing?), setting up the deck for the summer (lights, furniture arranging), and I hope we'll have the new garden box all filled and ready to go next weekend. Then planting. If things shift, so be it, but I need to get the tomatoes and squash in dirt! And last year's calendulas apparently re-seeded with a vengeance, so I need to weed/sort that mess out-- I planted carrots in that garden box, and who knew there were already residents? yikes.
And I need to find sage plants. This is weird; maybe 2025 has used them all up already? And I could not find heirloom tomatoes-- I like the purple Cherokee ones. So, I may have to go on the hunt at another place or two. But for now, I'm not doing a hell of a lot today. Holly is coming over for the morning through lunchtime, and I want to make cinnamon rolls with her. And then this afternoon, G and I have theatre tickets. It's a local production, and they do really professional performances, so that will be a treat. And no travel, so that's a bonus.
Today (before we head out to the Opera House), G will be investigating the new light fixture in the bathroom project; he has ideas about extending the project as well, but we'll see. I just want to be able to shower by something more than a battery-operated camp light. Wish him luck.
In other words, a project for him, and a little bit of rest for me. The school week will be a busy one, to be sure. And I have one evening poetry reading to zoom into, so that will be pleasant as well. I might make a ball game or two, weather depending. Tomorrow, the weather looks chilly and damp, so I might skip that game. Sigh. But pacing myself is necessary, and I don't seem to know how to do that until I am flat-out sore and tired. (Cue parent tape from my mother: "find something to do or I'll find it for you"--)
Anyhow, I'm going to try to rest today. Or at least, not be insanely busy. I hope you have a good day of rest as well.
