Free classes, good dinners, and other random musings
G and I went out to dinner last night, and it was lovely. We went to the Littleton Freehouse, which is an eclectic pub/restaurant that is situated in a refurbished auto garage. We've always liked the place, but we don't get to go often, mainly because it's always super busy. We took the chance and went early-- there by five pm-- and got right in. I'm glad we went when we did; by 5:30 it was packed and noisy. That's the only drawback; due to the wide open space and super high ceilings, it does get loud in there. But the crabcakes were superb-- they are only on the menu in the summer, and the tossed greens with light dressing, the seasoned fries, and the lovely crabcakes with chipotle aioli were just what I wanted. G got the fish and chips, with a starter of clam chowder-- he was really pleased as well. So, all in all, good dinner. And we were home before 6pm. (We are getting old, I think. lol)
I plunked down on the couch, watched the end of the Sox game (they lost, but it was the second wet game of a double header), and I signed up for one of the free Harvard classes online. You may have heard about the kerfuffle of righteous order that is going on between the feds and Harvard, and I am nonplused and angry about it. That said, the free courses are not a new thing, but many people do not know about them. They are mostly short versions or smaller segments of longer courses taught at the university. The professor for the one I signed up for is a true scholar; I've read a couple of his books. I chose the four week class on the ghost in Hamlet. There are a few others I want to explore, too-- and they are all free. Some of the courses have a small fee (avg. is 30.00), which would be more than fair as well. And I can get recertification hours for the courses. Woohoo! Not that I'm in any danger of not accruing enough hours; I like to learn stuff, and the one true blessing that has come with the internet is free/low cost classes. There is a huge interest right now in the government classes: justice, the Constitution, etc. If you are looking for some intellectual stimulation, the classes are open!
Anyhow, today is (I hope) going to be a day spent outdoors, getting things finished. Or at least close to finished. We are scheduled to fill the last garden box, and I have some deck things to do. I'll plant veggies tomorrow, when the soil has settled and I can putter at my own pace. I know G wants to mow and trim and so on today, so I'll stay out of his way.
I've also got a plan for a nice dinner tonight: pork loin, spinach salad with blueberries, walnuts, and goat cheese... not sure about a starch. Might just go with bread? I just feel a need to eat lighter foods, and that salad is calling my name.
I hope you have a good Sunday. I have to read this morning at church-- the passage from Apostles about not putting unfair or too restrictive mandates on people-- include adult circumcision. O brother.
Take care,
C
