Vacation week is coming...two more days...but first--

It's been cold for a long time. I didn't sleep well at all last night- woke up cold too many times to count. I'm already tired, and there's still two more days of school.

Today, I only have one class to teach, though-- the other one has been given over to winter carnival "prep"-- they will be working on their lip-sync routine and decorating the hallway. So, interminable rounds of "My lip gloss is poppin'" and arguments over streamers. God give me strength.

I don't mind most of the stuff that goes on with carnival week, and the dress-up days have been relatively harmless this year. The kids enjoy the change in routine, so that's a positive. And heaven knows, there's precious little positive going on in the world, so I won't complain. I won't stay for the afternoon stuff today, because I am just too darn tired. I'll be there bright and early tomorrow, though, to monitor three hours of indoor games in my classroom (two Promethean boards going at the same time with a herd of kids), and then I'll wander down to the gym to watch the human version of Hungry Hippos (which is hysterical to watch, lemme tell ya). I'll leave at my normal time-- I'm sure I'll be all ready for some quiet by then. 

Vacation? As in, week of different work, but flexible schedule. I have a brake job on the agenda. And we have that big bedroom project to do. I hope I can get some rest. I've been tired for ages, it seems. And maybe the weather will improve? We shall see.

At any rate, my little book might come in today via UPS, so that's something to look forward to. And I have some preliminary plans for a Zoom book launch with a fellow poet (stay tuned--no details yet), and I'm trying my best to get a local, in-person celebration figured out. Good things to occupy my mind. And I have to write a grant for a large field trip next fall. And and and...

YUP. Vacation week.

Keep good thoughts, please...

If you've been following along the blog this summer, then you probably already know that today, G has surgery on his foot to (we pray) correct the ongoing injury so that it will finally heal. If you are a praying person, please keep him in yours. It has been a very long summer of "hurry up and wait" and he's anxious and growly, and he wants to get back to doing. To get back to work. To stop sitting and thinking about all of it.  I'll be online in my writing conference (isn't it always the way, things have to collide like this?), but since it's day surgery, I should have an update early on. Thank God for Meg, as she is running point on the medical side of things.  I hope I have good news to share tomorrow.  C

More prayers-- there's so much to pray for--

Hey folks, things are unsettled --even more than they have been-- and your prayers, good thoughts, and positive vibes are needed and welcome. Geoff continues to heal (we hope), but that road is rocky and uncertain. He's pretty much out of commission for the foreseeable future, even though he *thinks* he can do more than he is supposed to. Crutches are a pain, but are critically necessary. Thus, he has next to no practical mobility. Tim is back in hospital in Boston, and they will be trying to ascertain the source of the fever he's running and has been for a couple of days now. I have zero idea what is up, but we pray it's not another huge hurdle. Meg is doing her best, but it ain't easy. She's headed to Boston in a few hours, and we hope she'll be able to come home in a few days. She is once again not able to get to go to work, so help is always appreciated.
