The whole thing went well yesterday-- I am relieved, grateful, and yes, tired...

So, yesterday went well. I have five young women in the writing camp at The Frost Place, and they are nice, friendly, and willing to work! They come from various backgrounds, but all have a love for writing and theatre. So, that goes a long way towards getting them to their own "next steps."

And my book launch went well! A cadre of former students showed up, as goofy and fun as they always have been, and they not only bought books, but also participated in the open mic part of things. It was a joy to hear their work, since they've been out of my classroom for several years. And OMG, to my surprise and delight, one of my oldest friends from college appeared with his wife and his mom. What a day! They were on their way home from Montreal, and timed it just right to show up. We don't get to see them all that often (every few years, really), so I was gobsmacked. We had some great community readers, too-- all good things.

G and I went out to Freehouse for dinner, then he suggested stopping for ice cream on the way home. Nice choice! The "small" scoop was huge-- butter pecan-- and I was more than content. Tired, yes, but content.

Today is day two of the young writers camp, and we'll finish up with some narrative poetry that has distinct voices/dialog, move into flash fiction, and dabble with some monologues from Shakespeare-- the women's monologues-- and see where that leads. To start, though, they will be sharing their "homework" from yesterday: I wanted them to write their own Ars Poetica poems. We did a lot with both form and free verse (buckle up, it's a fast-paced workshop, but they are keeping up!), and they already had two solid drafts of poems when they left yesterday. We'll do a bit on the joys of revision and how to perform a piece of writing near closing today, because there will be a performance of their own work at 3pm in the Barn.

Then I'll be all done for the weekend, and housework looms.

I hope you have a wonderful day. The weather is glorious, and I get to spend it at one of my favorite spots in the world. Not much can compare to the view from Frost's porch.

"You come, too--"

Ciao for now, and blessings on everyone!
