A good start... and another movie recommendation
Well, here's an update:
I was wrong about a "quiet" NYE-- my heart goes out to those affected by the truck driven into a holiday crowd in N'Orleans. When will people learn? I have no words.
That said, while I was in the shower yesterday morning, Geoff already started in on the den/front room project which turned out rather well! Holly's play area is in the den, and my front room quiet space is restored. We were both exhausted by noontime-- but it got done, and with only a few minor little things to do (rehang some pics in the den, etc.), it is nice to have a redefined living space.
G's move back upstairs for sleeping was somewhat momentous; he has to get used to the mattress again after so many months of a camp cot, and I don't get the middle of the bed anymore (yeeps!)-- that said, we both slept okay, so that's good. Poor man has gone on for months with this toe thing, and I, for one, am glad he is finally on the right side of healing. He also got special shoes and inserts (thank goodness for insurance) the other day, so that may help a lot, too.
I watched another decent movie last night, one that focused on the Bronte sisters, titled "To Walk Invisible." It was emotionally very dark, but quite good. Jonathan Pryce portrayed their minister father quite well, I think. And the actor who played Branwell, Adam Nagaitis, was amazing. He gave an unbelievably charged performance of the troubled, indulged, and sometimes abusive only son of the Bronte family.
So-- over my break, I've read a bit, watched three really good movies, and gotten some rest. We've restored living space. We've managed to get through the week-plus without getting sick. Not a bad ending/start.
Speaking of good starts, early yesterday morning, G went outside to get something, so I had him toss a coin across the thresh-hold, a nod to my Scots heritage and the tradition of "first footing" for luck. But G, being who he is, can't resist a silly moment: as I was standing there, he tossed the penny and almost landed it in the coffee cup in my hand. We both broke into full laughter at that. I hope that the laughter carries us through 2025.
Have a good day,
C
ps the Christmas tree is still taking up water, so it's still up until Epiphany. Huzzah!
