OK, the season is changing

How wonderful to have a computer that is not grinding, growling, blinking, blitzing, and sputtering. I'm beginning to think the old one was my spirit animal. I'd forgotten how tired the first week of school can make me; I was snoozing in my chair around 9pm, and slept hard last night. The dulcet tones of "beepbeepbeep" of my alarm clock were not the most welcome sounds. I slept with the window closed and the A/C on last night, mainly because someone in the neighborhood was burning something or other; maybe a last of the summer wood fire outdoors or some other thing like that. So, I was not privy to the crickets, the hushed street noises, or the rooster. At any rate, I slept better than I have most nights, so I'm grateful.

Today is the last work day of this week, and I have a few things to manage there, mostly paperwork and so on. I promised to go through the student handbook for typos, and while I was told "no rush," apparently it is needed right away. Gah. I'll finish it today.

We are going to pull the plug on the pool today when I get home. It's sad, but seriously, it'll never be warm enough overnight for it to be used again this year. I got up this morning and it was 44 on the thermometer. That water is a smidgen icy. So, we'll let it drain out, and hopefully dry out, and the goal is to pack it up tomorrow. That will leave a huge, barren circle in the back yard, which looks like an alien landing zone from old grade B sci-fi movies. It barely starts to recover grass before the winter chill comes in. It looks weird. Still, it's about the only flattish spot for the pool.

I likely have more tomatoes to pick, and I want to check in on the tardy squash plants. There is a lot of leaf/vine action, but not a lot of fruiting. We'll see what's up. Likely, they just didn't get enough sun. None of us have, really, except probably the tomatoes. The leaves are already turning, so I guess I need to take the hint.

Tomorrow and Monday are both days off from school, so I have the flex time to do these end-of-season chores. Most folks will be barbecuing or heading to the fair, or making one last attempt at the beach. Not us. We are still in stasis; G's foot injury (I pray) is on the mend, hopefully this time for real. I'm eyeing other things for the fall, but I'm not making any plans. I'd love to go to the museum in Manchester to see an exhibit. I'd like to go to any fall festivals, apple picking with Holly, etc. We'll see. Quite possibly, I'll be right here at my desk or in the kitchen, slowing rotating through chores.

At any rate, it's Thursday, I can write more quickly and efficiently to you, and I have a long weekend ahead to try to get things done that must be done sooner rather than later. I hope you have a good day!
