I got some sleep--now, onward: football, work, Disney movies, and committee meetings...
Well, I suppose my slightly whiny post yesterday served its purpose of kicking me in the pants. I got several poems read in the book I'm going to be writing about, got the chores and errands done, and did it all by 12:30. Goals met.
Today, I'll work my way through the papers I need to assess; I have no illusions that they'll be amazing, but I am hopeful that they will be relatively cogent. The kids are good kids, and the sophomores, especially, are eager to learn and do. They actually told me on Friday that not only is the class not as hard as they thought it would be (hehehe), but they think it's fun. Yay! British Lit is the foundation of what I love about teaching literature, and we've done quite a lot in three weeks. So, this first round of essays will likely need editing, but I hope that they are getting at the meat of it. I think they are, from conversations, so we shall see.
I'll also be working on some relatively not-that-healthy-but-okay-enough food today. Nothing will be fried, so there's that. I will not eat the sweet and sour cocktail weenies (ew, but others like them). The chicken tenders with buffalo sauce are a favorite of mine. Meg is supposed to be making a home-made chili and cornbread. Not bad, given that this is the secular holiday, Super Bowl Sunday, and we have, in the past, gone all out with wild caloric abandon. There will be chocolate brownies.
I honestly do not care who wins the game-- Go, Red Teams-- but it'll be nice to have family gathered around. Call it a sort of Sunday dinner.
This week, G and I will be on Holly duty again for a couple of days; me, Wed. afternoon/evening, Thursday, she will be with a trusted friend for the day and me for the afternoon/evening, and Friday, she'll be with Papa, being spoiled, no doubt. I hope she doesn't get too upset; she's starting to be more trusting of her daily routine again, so I hope we don't disrupt it too much. At least she can still sleep in her own bed every night.
Friday is also both the kick-off for our school's Winter Carnival activities and a professional development afternoon, so that's something to look forward to with patience. We'll see. The highlight of the day looks like the viewing of a Disney movie to "take notes" for their lip sync and hall decos, and the first meeting of the grading committee I'm involved with. Woot.
OK, so that's what's coming up. Hope you have a good day,
C
