Snow and routines--

We had measurable snow yesterday! At least it's light and fluffy-- well over the predicted amount, somewhere around 8 inches or so. Maybe more? Who knows. I'm hoping the plow guy shows up, but if he doesn't, I think I can run/gun it through the powder like some strange Subaru advertisement.

That said, the crappy weather necessitated Meg and Tim staying in Boston an extra day; they'd gone down Monday afternoon, with the expectation that his first post-transplant check-up would be done by noon or so Tuesday, then they'd be home. Nah. Apparently, Mother Nature thinks it's a riot to snarl up everything with freezing rain and snow in the Boston area, and they had to hole up in the Double Tree. (Not awful.) We've been back on Holly duty, and lucky for us, we've gotten rather good at it. G spent two nights on the couch again, though.

I am hopeful that the weather is decent today (the predictions are good), that Meg and Tim can get home mid-day, and Holly will be happy (again) to see her parents. This is a shadow play that will be re-enacted every two weeks or so for the foreseeable future, so this is now our new routine. We'll make it work.

In the meantime, today will require heavy clothes, heavy boots, and a lot of patience. My poor, grumpy feet and knees resent the boots so much. But it's really unsafe to just wear sneakers (I did that yesterday, and it was a poor choice). Battling the weather and it's aftermath is tiresome.

But G is off today, so I don't have to haul the toddler to a sitter, so that's a blessing. Poor kiddo is such a trouper, though; she is game to go where she must, and she's rolling with it. Mostly. She does get a little cranky, and a more regular routine is better for her and for all of us. That's what I really wish for, to be honest: a regular routine. We can do anything, as long as the rules to the game don't keep shifting. I know Meg and Tim would much rather have things settle into a pattern we can all work with. I'm ready for boring.

Have a good day, and stay warm! It is 12 degrees at the moment. Bundle up.
