Heavenly virtues, cardinal virtues, capital virtues--and thanks.

We are learning humility and gratitude in new ways. Patience is a daily struggle-- with each other, but more, with waiting. There is much to be grateful for, but it's also really hard not to wail "why me? why us? why now?" to the heavens. I guess that means we are human.

I'd like to take a longer view of things, and refer to classical values. It doesn't hurt to use these as a personal report card:

"In Christian tradition, the seven heavenly virtues combine the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance, and fortitude with the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity.

The seven capital virtues, also known as contrary or remedial virtues, are those opposite the seven deadly sins. They are often enumerated as chastity, temperance, charity, diligence, patience, kindness, and humility" (Wikipedia).

I like to think that we measure up okay in most areas. The exigencies of our current family crisis require that we are especially careful of one another. Sometimes we slip, with a cross word or a frustrated gesture, but we are also pretty quick to make amends.

Thanks to the kindness and strength of other people, we made it through one more crazy week. I pray we keep going, one hour at a time, and come out stronger ourselves.

Take care,

C
