Another Monday delay--and our daily living pattern in Toddler World
Third Monday in a row with a weather delay for school. Not a problem-- I can use all the time I can get to finish up some house chores and drink my coffee in a civilized manner. Holly is safely ensconced with friends since last evening, so it's just me and the doggo for a couple of hours. Do you have any idea what I can get done in two unscheduled hours? It's amazing.
I hope everyone who does not have a delay has a safe drive to where-ever they must go. I don't want to gloat about my good fortune without being mindful of the travelling conditions for others. But right now, given how intensely busy my weekend was and how intensely busy this week is sorting out to be, I'll take this gift of time.
I should be working on Christmas cards or wrapping, but I'll likely pop some laundry in to wash and clean the downstairs bathroom. Both are more immediately necessary anyhow. On the way home, I will stop off to buy more diapers and wipes, too-- maybe we are getting into a rhythm? I dunno.
This week's sitter schedule is pretty well set, if there are no hiccups. We are so blessed to have good friends who are nearby who are willing and able to take the tiny tornado into their homes. Holly is one busy little girl, to be sure-- she is a tiny person of big moods, lots of love, deep compassion for animals and babies-- and a real need for a nap around 1pm daily. We'll see if she gets one/takes one today. If not, she might be a little...spicy. Of late, she has been putting herself down for a sleep in my recliner while watching Winnie the Pooh. Gotta love that old-school Disney magic.
Holly was truly enraptured by the whole decorating the tree project. She was so careful with the ornaments given to her to hang, and declared, after each one she hung, that it was "easy peasy." She's a riot, really. When we ran out of ornaments, Holly was quite put out, though. I may help her make some this week, if I can rustle up some bits and pieces. I'll have to put my thinking cap on for that one.
We have a routine that is settling into place, anyhow. I fully believe that little ones need it, not only to help them learn how to self-regulate and how to structure their day, but for security. If other things in their lives are in flux, at least they can rely on when meals are, when tubby time is, and how we go about doing things. At the end of the day, don't we all need the security of routine? I know I do.
That all said, my day has those two extra hours of unscheduled time. I'd best be about using them.
Take care,
C
