Frustrated by climate deniers--
California. Canada. Libya. Florida. Vermont. Melting glaciers and bleaching coral reefs. Soon, Nova Scotia (likely). (There's also the horrible earthquakes, but that's a rant for another day.)
Weather emergencies. Fires. Extreme events. So much damage, fear, and denial-- the last of this list is the most dangerous.
Our planet is not just undergoing a temporary hissy fit; the climate is affected by many things, but in large part, by human activity. And yet, there are those who don't see it, won't see it, and unfortunately, many of them are in positions to nix any possible mediating strategies we might come up with.
It's quite clear that the opportunity to reverse damage has passed, but we can still try a lot harder to stop making more of a mess. And we have to learn to adapt; not something humanity does well, of late. Instead, the deniers are busy blaming, ignoring, spouting stupidity from their platforms-- but doing nothing useful.
There's a lot of waste in government, to be sure. And much of it is this foolish smoke and mirrors show that is costing you and me billions. Investigate the investigation, stay and delay, push and shove, table this and that, and then blame someone else. The time, talent, and treasure could be used much more effectively. The avalanche of money needs to be redirected into things that will bring about results, not just enrich platoons of keyboard clickers and pontificating politicians.
From the musical 1776, John Adams sings:
I do believe you've laid a curse on North America
A curse that we now here rehearse in Philadelphia
A second flood, a simple famine
Plagues of locusts everywhere
Or a cataclysmic earthquake
I'd accept with some despair
But, no, you sent us Congress.
Good God, sir, was that fair?
and
You see, we piddle, twiddle, and resolve
Not one damn thing do we solve
Piddle, twiddle, and resolve
Nothing's ever solved in
Foul, fetid, fuming, foggy, filthy
Philadephia!
Nothing has changed, it seems. And I want change, so very desperately. It is frustrating. There are well-intentioned people in Congress, albeit not the ones who are the headline-grabbers. I cheer up a little when I read that they have called out some new or ongoing stupidity, but the good feelings fade so very quickly-- there's always another loudmouth with a tin horn making noise. We get distracted by the ignorant and trashy behavior of people like Boebert, and then the news flips to some other destruction.
I say again, the worst destruction we have is these do-nothing blowhards. I'm not one of those "burn it all down" fools, but I'm ready to clean House and Senate.
Take care,
C
