Ready-ish-- and I have my own classroom! Huzzah!

Sorry for the post delay, but our entire town was experiencing an internet outage and then I had to go to work.

We had a staff meeting, then a little time to get some stuff done in our classrooms, then another meeting, lunch, and finally, a stretch of time to finish prepping our rooms. I'm sure that some folks will be back in the building again tomorrow, but not me. I'm ready-ish.

This is the first time in over 30 years that I don't have to share my classroom. It's so freakin' weird! I have fewer pieces of furniture! I have the bulletin board! I can put stuff where I want to!

It was nice to cover the bulletin board with colored paper, and start putting up a few little posters on it. It may not seem like a big deal, but the last two people I shared a room with preferred bare bulletin board (read: dingy, smudgy, old burlap-surface), and put pretty much just the grading policy and a few other notices on the board. EWWW.

I covered mine with shades of blue and purple, with one yellow square. Think sort of Mondrian-like. I'll be putting mostly creative writing quotes and such on the board. Positive, pleasant to look at, and a breath of fresh air.

I put the necessary notices in a neat arrangement on the closet door; handy, but not dominating the visual area. I have a large work table, my desk is spare and useful, and the desks are arranged in a double not-quite-half circle. I have small classes, so I only kept ten desks. The room looks bright and airy, neat, but not "functional" or "institutional."

I'm pretty pleased with it. The posters I will be scattering around my room are Banksy prints, too-- fun, and a little edgy.

I have no idea if I'm mentally ready yet, but the framework is built for me to work within-- it'll do, until I get my rhythm going. At least I have a "three day weekend" to get my mental shift going.

And what fun we have planned for tomorrow! I know, it's gonna rain yet again (the only nice days, I've been cooped up in a building), but we are going to the fair to see the animals with Holly. And get a fried dough. =) I'm sure we'll see all sorts of people G knows (it's in Lyndonville, after all), and we'll have things to do and figure out, but it'll be a fun time, if we make it so.

Then, likely we'll head out to dinner to our usual spot-- last hurrah, or this week's hurrah--whichever. I wish the weather was going to be nice this weekend, but hey, we can't change it. Just change how we feel about it. (I'm trying.)

Take care, and thanks for waiting for today's post.
