You know who doesn't do their homework...

Here we go again.

Yesterday, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee sent a rather pointed letter to Sec. Pete Buttigieg, accusing the federal DOT of having a shoddy response to the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. They blathered on about how the NTSB didn't, and wasn't, doing their job, and the Committee wanted all paperwork and so on to review the situation.

Problem.

The NTSB is not part of the DOT (how's that alphabet soup going?), and Sec. Buttigieg has no authority to do jack squat with them. The DOT has had people on site since five hours after the crash, and he has sent people to assist the NTSB.

Heather Cox Richardson, in her newsletter, writes,

"...the letter these representatives wrote shows such a profound disinterest in how our government works that it suggests these representatives have no real interest in the job they were sent to Washington to do, and instead are weaponizing the government to mislead their followers into believing things that are not true."

I think it's about damned time that these yahoos who want to run the government take a break and learn their job; that is, how the government works, which department oversees what, etc. I know I've said it before, that there ought to be a civics test for those seeking office. You'd think that if you were a responsible representative of the people you serve, you'd figure out what your job looks like before you start yammering about things.

Yes, I'm angry. I am, as a public school teacher, required to engage in ongoing professional development in order to just keep my job. I need to know what I'm doing, and I am held to a standard that, apparently, is far beyond that of any public official who is "in charge" of our country. That doesn't seem fair, at the lowest level. I do not make it up as I go; why should they?

As citizens of this country, we should be requiring our elected people to do their job with humility, diligence, and a large degree of competence.

In related news, Marjorie Taylor Greene stated in a now-deleted tweet that "6 billion" people have illegally crossed our borders during the Biden administration. Really? We threw a party and most of the entire globe showed up? Ridiculous.

In short, they should do their homework.

Have a good day,

C
